On 14 January Cala S’Alguer Apartaments featured in an article in the leading Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia. They spoke to the developer Vera Borges and Lucas Fox – the real estate agency marketing the project – about why this development is unique and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for lovers of this spectacularly beautiful corner in the north east of Spain. Below is a translation of the original article:
New Development in a unique setting
The Cala S’Alguer development is on the seafront, in a unique setting in Palamós
Living in the heart of the Costa Brava, a few metres from a protected natural area, with the sea on your doorstep and in a newly built development, is possible. Or it will be from summer 2019, as this is the expected completion date for the Cala S’Alguer Apartaments development. This development, which consists of 48 apartments distributed in 2 blocks, is located close to the charming beach of La Fosca, in Palamós. It is a unique natural environment bordering one of the longest stretches of protected and unspoilt land and only 200 metres from the sea.
A long-term project
“It is not hard to fall in love with the Natural Area of Castell-Cap Roig and, above all, with Cala S’Alguer. When you see its crystal clear waters for the first time, you can not help thinking: ‘Am I in the Caribbean?’”. Vera Borges, the developer behind Cala S’Alguer Apartaments, explains her connection with Palamós. A connection that comes from a long time ago as her family has been linked to Palamós since the 19th century, when her great-grandfather came from Germany. “I have spent time in this area since I was a child, with its pine forests, its pathways, the transparent waters… For me, Palamós is my second home.”
It was precisely this link with Palamós that motivated her to participate in this project. A project that has been long and complicated at times: “In 2005 the land was bought and a few years later we were shaken by the crisis, which was very severe in the real estate sector. There were partners who left the project, but I have always believed in it. I am excited to do something special for Palamós, and to respect the natural environment of this unique place. And I refused to sell. I have been patient and have waited.” And in February this much-desired project will begin to take shape, because that is when the works will start.
Unique development on the Costa Brava
“To date, there are very few New Developments on the Costa Brava. And none of them is comparable to this. Because of its surroundings, its unique location… It is almost impossible to repeat,” says Tom Maidment, Partner and Director of Lucas Fox Costa Brava and Maresme, the real estate agency that is marketing and selling the development. “It is close to a protected forest area of 1,100 hectares, which also has 7 kilometres of unspolit coastline. From the development you can enter the adjacent pine forest and visit an area that is 100% natural and unspoilt.”
All the apartments have a terrace; the ground floor apartments have private gardens and the penthouses have roof terraces up to 80m²
The uniqueness of the surroundings has itself delayed the project and the granting of building permits. “The Town Hall wanted to make sure everything was correct and there were no loose ends. The last step was a report that the Generalitat requested about the environmental and landscape impact of the development. And a few months ago we received their approval,” explains Vera Borges. In fact, the design of this development has acheived maximum integrated well with the lush natural environment that surrounds it. “From the construction, of only two blocks with a low height, or the façade, with Trespa panels, to its Mediterranean 10,000m² gardens, its 2 swimming pools that all connect directly with the adjacent pine forest,” says Borges.
The Cala S’Alguer development consists of 48 two and three bedroom apartments with terraces, including penthouses with roof terraces and ground floor apartments with private gardens. At the moment, only the first of the 2 blocks has been commercialised. “We have already reserved 42% of the apartments. And, for now, the majority of buyers are national – 70%,” says Maidment. As for the price, the apartments are from €320,000.
